The Towel

We've spent a number of summers at the Jersey shore. We usually rent a shore house for the week and Gregg's family all come and visit with us. The kids would have so much fun spending time with their Romaine cousins. We would spend the day at he beach and at the end of the day, we would all walk home carrying all our beach gear. The kids would then start to wager who gets to shower first in the limited showers we have at the house. So this day they decided whoever gets there first gets to shower ....well that is all you have to say and Jack took off to be the first one in the shower. We all arrived at the house and the kids scattered to shower in the three showers (if you're lucky enough to have that). then we noticed Jack was not around until he walked in the front door already showered. We were like where did you shower?? It turned out Jack showered in our neighbors house on the third floor. We were on the second floor and our neighbors upstairs made a mistake of not locking the door. Jack through his rush did not notice this was not the house we rented. He didn't realize until he got out that none of his clothes were there. After everyone laughed at this latest stunt of his....it was my husband and my duty to return the towel Jack took to dry and cover himself as he made his return. My husband and I knocked on the door and the mom answered. She was full of smile and glee as she greeted us. Then I saw her eyes scroll slowly down from my face to the towel I was holding in my arms. The look in her face as she slowly acknowledged that I was holding her towel was a mixture of horror and discomfort. We then had to explain about Jack and apologized profusely at the accidental trespassing our son did to their abode. This has gone down to our families collection of stories, so endearing and so Jack. We love Jack's escapades.....
